Robyn McLeod from Melbourne, Australia shows the gorgeous and delicate patterns of lichen on rocks in her photos. The changing patterns of Lake Ohau provide a focus for guest photography too. The lake can sound like sea waves, lap gently, or be silent.

Walking and tramping in nearby Conservation Areas are popular activities for guests. Kim and Jason guests from Wellington, NZ armed with Department of Conservation "Day walks in the MacKenzie basin" braved the famed nor'wester for the Pukaki Kettlehole track and boulders, tripped to Tekapo for the peninsula walkway, made it to the saddle of Ben Ohau (1387m) despite snow the night before, and were blessed with perfect weather for Aoraki/Mt Cook's Hooker Valley track on their last day.

Maadi Cup at nearby Lake Ruataniwha is an important rowing event. The Gravatt family from Auckland took this photo of 'Zac Gravatt' named after their son. First time out, Maadi Cup 2010, Zac got it - bronze!! What a race. Tears of pride all round. It had been 9 years since Auckland Grammar had won a medal in the senior eight at Maadi Cup. The family were so proud they could see Zac grinning from ear to ear.
Guests frequently make day trips to Mt Cook while staying at Ohau House. These photos were taken by Lois and Tim Stapleton, honeymooners from UK.
